Baby It's Cold Outside

I got an email from Julep about doing a post on nail care during the winter months. I thought it was a great idea as the struggle to keep my hands and nails classy not ashy gets a little harder as the temperatures dip.

L'Occitane Nail and Cuticle Nourishing Oil  (.25fl oz/ $18) / Nivea Creme Travel Sized Tin (1oz./$.79)

My main hand and nail concern during the colder months is dryness. When winter comes I usually switch to a heavier lotion and add a cuticle oil to keep my hand and nails moisturized. My two favorites  for this time of the year are the Nivea Creme Travel Tin and the L'Occitane Nail and Cuticle Nourishing Oil shown above. I like to use the cuticle oil just before bed and I reach for the Nivea Creme after every hand washing throughout the day.  An added bonus is that their portable size makes them perfect to slip into the smaller clutches and evening bags during the holiday season.

Julep's tips on how to winterize your nails are outlined below.  My  favorite one is warming the cuticle softener.

Formula X For Sephora- Gravity (.4 oz/$10.50)/ Three day old manicure with two coats.  More colors here.

Julep- January (.27oz/$14) on sale HERE! / Three day old manicure with two coats

I'd love to hear about what you do to winterize your hands and nails. Let me know in the comments.

The great vegan meal I told you about in my last post

Hello! Can you believe we are staring down the end of 2014?  It seems the older I get the faster the years go by. I''m not making any resolutions for this year but I am doing this thing I read about where you pick a word for the new year. That word is supposed to inspire you for the year ahead.  The word I picked for 2015 is bold.  It just came to me on my way home this week. From where I do not know. We shall see how it unfolds. Think about it and tell me what your word would be.

Kyoto, Japan:35.0117° N, 135.7683° E

Hello. I hope you all are having a great holiday season. I'm hanging with my family and in between the eating, online shopping and binge watching of Penny Dreadful and The 100 I'm going through the pics I took during my last trip.

We went from Tokyo to Kyoto via the Shinkansen(Japanese bullet train) which got us there comfortably in a couple of hours.  I liked Kyoto a lot.  I spent a lot of time walking around going to the different temples and enjoying the laid back pace.  I also had some really great meals while in Kyoto. I had an amazing vegan lunch at a restaurant that offered yoga classes, and the best soy doughnut and ice cream from a street vendor on the way back from the bamboo forest.

If you have any interest in Japan I would highly recommend a stay in Kyoto. My only suggestion would be to brush up on your bike riding skills.  Let's just say I learned the hard way that you can forget ☻

Ready or Not Here I Come

I met this guy on the elevator last week and we started talking about the holidays. He asked me if I was ready for them and I gave him my standard response- As ready as I'm going to be. We started talking about how the holidays can sometimes seem like a runaway train that you see coming but can't look away from until you've been mowed over. He told me that this year his mantra was less is more and he was doing his best to focus on what he felt was important about the season: Christ, family and friends. I told him I would take his mantra with me.

Now let me be absolutely clear, I will never not buy nail polish, lipstick or pretty things.  Although I'm adopting his mantra I am not taking a vow of asceticism. I'm shooting for less worrying about getting everything done and less frenzy, which I hope will lead to more meaningful moments with my loved ones.

What about you guys? Are you ready for the holidays?

I know red is usually the color for the holiday season. This year though for some reason I have been having a mean case of the blues. Always one to follow where my spirit leads me I have been wearing a blue mani for weeks straight. I like how depending on the shade, blue can be festive and modern at the same time. The three colors above have been my favorite in my blue period so far. All of the colors are shown with two coats and they all applied evenly with normal drying time. The Rescue Beauty Lounge colors are part of their recent collaboration with Refinery29. You can read more about their match up here.

I have been pairing my blue tips with my statement necklaces because I've also been having a let's wear all the shiny things all the time moment as well.(Try not to judge me) I didn't set out to match my nails to my jewelry but it turned out that way and I liked it.

I am getting lazier and lazier. My outfits are getting simpler and simpler and I'm finding that I'm focusing more on my accessories to speak for the look. So if you see me around town know that I want my blue nails and shiny baubles to say to you- Give that girl a ginger ale and some mixed nuts!

What colors have you been incorporating into your holiday wardrobe?

Hello!

My calendar is telling me that it is only early December but I'm already getting emails about how behind I am if I haven't already made my resolutions for next year. Seriously?  I'm happy for those that feel they already have spring 2015 popping. I on the other hand don't like to be rushed so 2015 will have to wait until I finish living 2014.

What are your plans for the next 2,073,600 seconds until the new year?
