"In the end it was the choice you made..."

I am not upset. This is just how I look when I'm not smiling.

Some days everything is ironed and tucked in with wonderful matching accessories. Then there are the rest of the days. Those days when you need to do laundry and you can't find a belt because you don't really have a decent one. When the cute black peep toe pumps with the higher heel would look better with your outfit, but wouldn't you know it the heel just broke.

I'm not saying that the day I took these pics was one of those days. I'm just saying those days when you just can't seem to get it together despite the best laid plans happen. And when they happen to me I usually get all, "man I really need to hit that lotto" for a little bit, but then I keep it moving.

Shoes(even though you can't see them :)  Franco Sarto
Bag: Coach( I lovveee this bag!) in black here
Necklace: Loft

On those days I know I have a choice. I can choose to be cranky and let my irritable mood infect those around me or, I can choose acceptance and patience and go with the flow. I've found the best way to get through my day and get home is to just go with the flow, and remind myself for the umpteenth time to buy a belt :)   Happy Hump Day!

Be Well.

"And so it goes"

When I was younger, I couldn't wait to get older so I could do stuff on weeknights. For a long time in my household if you were in school, weeknights were for homework, chores, reading ahead in your textbooks(which was basically more homework) and World News Tonight with Peter Jennings.  When we got a little older, my brother and I banded together in our pleas to get to watch something other than the news and we each got......wait for it...... one show......on Friday nights.  My pick was Punky Brewster.

Back then I didn't  really have any clear notions on exactly what kind of "stuff" I would do on weeknights when I got older. I just had this sinking feeling that the whole world was out there having fun on a Tuesday night while I was stuck at home preparing for my common entrance exams.

I was a wee bit disappointed when older came, and the week brought with it, early morning conference calls, deadlines(basically homework), rush hour traffic and laundry. All of which left me the weeknights to do what I needed to get to work on time, presentable and  prepared. So yeah, not exactly fun stuff.

Don't get me wrong I don't live to work. I just still generally do all my hanging out on the weekends. I still do the most of my TV watching on the weekends too.  Friday night Jill Scot concert, I'm there. Wednesday night comedy show....what??... on a work night... I can't sorry. What can I say?  Old habits die hard.

For everyone at OTC.  I'm ofthecomely.  Good night.
Be Well.

There's no hurry for the road is long

This is how I ended my year with workouts. November was very hectic and December gifted me with the flu of the century, but by the last week of the year I was able to get back into the swing of things.

This was my gym on New Year's Day. The next day I practically had to park on the roof. With February around the corner, unfortunately a lot of folks have already fallen off the improved fitness resolution bandwagon.

I am no expert, but I think I work out fairly regularly.  A while back I realized that if I wanted to have any hope of surviving a zombie apocalypse improve my overall health and well being,  I needed to start exercising.  When I started working out I was on a tight budget, so a gym or a trainer were not options. I started by walking around a neighborhood park for an hour. After some time I was able to slow jog for half of the last lap, and eventually I got to the point where I was able to run for the hour.

I would see these incredibly fit older people at the park every time I was there doing their Tai Chi, jogging with their sweatbands and their leg warmers, speed walking with their Walkmans and it slowly began to dawn on me.... I am going to have keep this up forever....  You see that's the part I don't think gets stressed enough. I think that's the part that a lot of people overlook, don't realize and/or don't understand. You hear words like maintenance, consistency, regimen, lifestyle. Those are all fancy words which mean, for the rest of your natural life.

I'm not saying this to scare anyone. In fact when I realized that I found it quite freeing. I realized it wasn't something I had to conquer that summer. It was something I would need to keep doing so I could pace myself. I started out walking and running and then branched out in to other activities like weight training, yoga and more recently Pilates.

From left to right: work out calendars from 2011, 2012 & 2013

I'm all for exercise resolutions and goals. I make them too. Sometimes I meet them sometime I don't. Life happens.  You get sick. A family member gets sick. Your workload gets doubled.  The car dies.  I get it. I don't however give up, because I remember what I learned that summer over a decade ago. Slowly, steadily, surely for the rest of my natural life.

Start. Keep at it. Save me a parking spot :)

Five 'o' clock shadow

I've had this Guerlain Rouge L'Extrait for a couple months now, and other than taking pictures of it in flowers, I hadn't done much with it until recently. It's described as a slightly matte combination between a lipstick and a gloss, which sounds about right to me.

Guerlain Rouge L'Extrait Luxure M27

All I really want to talk about when it comes to this pretty is the case. Can we talk for a moment about the case? From the closed position you pull the shorter end with the logo and the top part flips up to reveal a double sided mirror that you can use to apply the lipstick. This case is giving me old world glamour, MacGyver and Bond leading lady all in one sophisticated package. Just imagine yourself whipping this pretty out of your fabulous clutch on a date.

I'm pretty sure I picked up Luxure M27 because I saw someone looking fabulous in it online.

Staying true to our committment here at ofthecomely to "keep it real", this is what it looks like in a picture taken after work, in a room with the worst possible lighting. On my screen it looks like it leans more toward orange, however in person I think it's more of a true red.

Let me know if you've tried this one or any others from the Guerlain L'Extrait line.

Anyone remember MacGyver? That was my show.

Snaps - Tried, Bought, Want

I love taking pictures of just about anything and everything and I've been spending way too many hours to admit playing around with a lot of the photo apps I've been able to find. So far I' "up on": Aviary, KitCam, Split Pic, Picfx, FrameMagic, A+Signature, Snapseed, PicStitch, PS Express and Pic Collage. I used Pic Collage  above with some snaps from a day of shopping on the last day of 2012. If you know about any that I've missed, please let me know.

The nail polishes are Chanel colors Emprise, Fracas & Accessoire from Chanel's Spring 2013 line up. I found them at Macy's. I've been posting my nail pics on Instagram, but I haven't worn any of these as a full manicure yet.

The high top platform lace sneakers are from Rachel Roy, also at Macy's. Now I've seen all the cool, hip cats around town rocking their platform high top sneakers. Since I am neither hip nor cool, I just figured they weren't for me. However, I love these shoes. They stopped me dead in my tracks. I'll be watching them like a hawk to see if they go on sale.

At The Limited I found some cute pants and a pair of gold toned knot earrings. The fitting room lighting isn't doing the pants any justice. They are a perfect blush tone.

Finally, I have a little tradition where I have to start the new year with a calendar. Not just any calendar. I mean a calendar carefully chosen as I walk the aisles of Barnes & Nobles for hours thinking about my hopes and dreams for the new year.  Do I want one that's going to make me laugh, one that will inspire my love of travel,  my love of beautiful things? It's a serious process, so imagine my shock & horror when I found out days before the end of the year that my local Barnes & Nobles was closing ?!? Shock and horror!?! I tell you. Now I know they sell calendars in lots of other places but it's not the same. In my dismay I turned to the Internet, and found the one above online. The company had a local branch in my mall so I picked it up on New Year's Eve for 50% off. So.. Savings: 1. Tradition: 0 (my heart cries out).
Thanks for reading! Be well ^-^
