Rescue Beauty Lounge- Killa Red

Rescue Beauty Lounge Killa Red

I picked this color up a little while ago. My love of RBL colors is well documented on this blog and Killa Red is no exception. To me it looks like a deep blue based red. I'm wearing two coats in the pictures above.

You just can't go wrong with a color like this. I can't think of anyone it wouldn't look good on as a mani or a pedi. I'm not a season purist when it comes to nail polish colors but I do think red, especially this color red, works year round.

This is what I wore

Scarf: Target
Shirt: New York & Company Seen here
Pants: Victoria's Secret

I almost titled this post, to belt or not to belt. I'm pretty sure the pants came with a belt, but I couldn't find it that day. I thought about using the scarf as a belt at first but, I decided against it. I thought all that material would look too bulky around the waist. I'm one of those people that like the no belt look so I was fine going without one.

Spring Colors: Chanel June, Ultimes de Chanel, Laura Mercier Sizzle & Oh La La

Chanel June- two coats

Roses Ultimes de Chanel

Spring nail polish colors are popping up like daisies everywhere. Some like the Chanel June I'm wearing in the first pic have been out since the holidays. Others like the Roses Ultimes de Chanel colors in the second pic are more recent. As usual there are lots of very pretty oranges, pinks and corals to go around but I'm waiting for somebody to come out with a really pretty robin blue or Easter yellow.

Spring is supposed to be all about rebirth, renewal and growth. Maybe it is still a little too early for me, but I'm not in the mood for any births or rebirths, so I think I'll just stick with the nail polish for now. :)*

Have a great week.

This is what I wore

Vest: Target
Shirt: The Loft
Pants: The Loft
Bag: Kenneth Cole seen here

I was still in my black on black on black phase when I came up with this outfit for work. The pants feel like silk and are in heavy rotation in my closet.  The shirt I'd bought as a Christmas gift for my sister one year but forgot about it until after she left town. (Does anybody else buy gifts for people and put them up only to find them ohh I don't know a year later??). The shirt had some strips that are the same material as the pants so I thought, hey why not wear them together. I added the vest because I thought it gave the outfit a more pulled together look and made it more work appropriate.

I can't think of the last time I wore head to toe black.  It was fun to get my Tabatha on. Although I like it I think I'm too much of a fan of color to do it regularly.  I'll keep ya posted :).

Have a great weekend.

All around the world

The plan was for me to be maxing and relaxing in a beautiful tropical location for the next couple of days. Unfortunately like most best laid plans, something came up. Since I was in vacation mode I found myself going through photos from past trips.

The pics below were taken at my favorite beach. I freely admit that I am biased when it comes to this beach. Why.. you could say it's mi orgullo. I could tell you where they taken up front but what would be the fun in that.  I'll give you hints throughout instead :).

The island where you can find this beach, like most was formed by volcanoes. The story as it was told to me, is that the volcanic eruption resulted in a deposit of boulders which over time eroded, creating caves and tunnels with warm sheltered pools of water throughout. The beach/area gets its name from these pools of water.(Hint, Hint).

The pic above is me at the designated main entrance to the caves.

The people above were on a guided tour. It's a tight fit and slippery in certain points but if you're up to it physically the experience will be worth it.

More after the break...

Chanel Black Velvet

This mani was inspired by two people. The first, a friend of mine from school who always wore black on Valentine's Day. She claimed to hate the "holiday" and refused to wear anything remotely red or pink on that day. Interestingly enough she was always the one in the group getting the singing telegram with teddy bear during class.

The second person is my new friend in my head Tabatha Coffey.  I'm enamoured with her all black outfits and jet black manicures. After getting caught up in a Tabatha Takes Over marathon some time ago I've been fighting the urge to cut my hair into a short pixie cut.

I'm wearing two coats of polish in the pics above and no top coat.  I don't know how clearly you can see it in the pics with the flash from the camera, but the polish dries to a matte finish which I rather like. I don't think I've ever posted a matte polish before. I know a lot of the brands sell a top coat that you can apply to any polish to make it matte, but I don't remember trying any of those.

I know the opinions on black polish run the gamut from played out, goth, and unprofessional to edgy, stylish and classic. I'm in the latter group.  To me a nice black mani on short clean nails always looks comely.

P.S. My mani from last week was not MIA. I didn't mention it because it was a color I've posted before- Chanel Rouge Noir.

Wishing you tons of singing telegrams and teddy bears this week, if that's your thing :).

The Greatest Love of All

Source

I just got a call from a friend telling me that Whitney Houston has passed away and I'm stunned. I know she had her issues. I know the only thing certain in life is death, but I'm still stunned.

My earliest recollection of Ms. Houston is from 1986. I remember going to a talent show where just about every contestant sang, The Greatest Love of All. They sang it as a solo, they sang it as a duet, they sang it as quartet. I mean back to back renditions. I remember getting the same feeling years later when she released I Will Always Love You, which was played on every station 24/7 and probably at every wedding that year. I would not consider myself a huge Whitney Houston fan but I'm the first one to give credit where credit is due, and there's no denying that this woman's voice in her prime touched countless people.

In addition to having a beautiful and majestic voice, I always thought she was such a classic and stylish  beauty.

Remember this from the VMAs. I think Mariah then ripped off the
bottom of her dress to make it shorter.

Big hair 80s Whitney, Bobby Brown Era Whitney, 90s Whitney,  2010 comeback Whitney, when she brought her A game it was over.

There will undoubtedly be a lot of talk about the good, the bad and the ugly in her life, as well as speculations about her passing. Yours truly prefers to focus on the positives. She was an exceptionally gifted artist who will be sorely missed. I dare you to listen to her rendition of the Star Spangled Banner below and not be moved.

My sincere, condolences go out to her family and friends.

Workouts- January 2012

Sorry for the crappy pic but that's the best I could do.  Okay I'll say it I'm mildly obsessed with Pilates. Moving on, I don't know what happened to Wednesday this month but I clearly wasn't in the mood to be busting any type of move on hump day. Thursday wasn't that much better either but I'm still averaging four-five days a week.

Sunday 1.22.12 run

Sunday 1.29.12 run

Sunday 1.29.12 run

The best thing about this month was me easing back into my outdoor runs. I'm sure the Garmin I got for Christmas had something to do with that.  You can see I'm not a fast runner but that's okay with me. I like running solo and going at my own pace.  If weather and time permits I think I'm going to make Sunday my running day.

Have a great week!

Nars Matte Lip Pencils: Damned, Dragon Girl and Train Bleu

From top to bottom:
Damned
Dragon Girl
Train Bleu

NARS Matte Lip Pencil-Damned

NARS Matte Lip Pencil - Dragon Girl

NARS Matte Lip Pencil- Train Bleu

I was  over the moon when the sales associate with the MUA("make up artist"..isn't that cute) tattoo in Sephora turned me on to these lip pencils. I don't remember what I went in for that day, but I do know I ended up getting a mini make over with these pencils. I'm a late bloomer when it comes to lipstick so I'd never heard of lip pencils like these before.

They are matte and my lips are chronically dry which is not  the best combination, but I loved the colors and the ease of application so much I said what the heck and bought them anyway.

Damned is a very nice every day mauveish, burgundy color. It photographed much lighter than it appears in person. Dragon Girl is a really nice bright poppy red. It's like this nail polish color for your lips. Train bleu is all about the drama. It reminds of that lip color that Lauryn Hill use to always wear back in the day.

The pencils are $24 each and can be found in stores and on Sephora.com.
