Rescue Beauty Lounge- Sheer Nude

I've had RBL Sheer Nude for a while now and this is my first time using it. I like nudes and lighter colored nail polishes every now and then, but my heart belongs to the bright and deep dark colors. This week's  mani presented a bit of a dilemma that led me to RBL's Sheer Nude. I'm wearing two coats in the pics above.

A couple days before I somehow managed to split the corner of the nail on my right middle finger down to the skin. Don't ask me how. The last thing I remember is trying to tuck my shirt into my pants. That nail was still in pretty bad shape two days later when it was time for my manicure. At first I thought about skipping the mani for this week. I thought about it some more and decided that wouldn't be fair to the other nine fingers. So I went through my stash looking for a color that would be as close as possible to my bare jacked up nail and I found Sheer Nude.  The last pic is my right hand with my unpainted middle finger. Pretty good match don't ya think?

Blouse: Banana Republic seen HERE
 Skirt and Shoes: Banana Republic
Tights: Express
Bag: Burberry

I hope everyone had a great weekend. I can't believe we are two days from February. It's always amazing to me how quickly time passes the older you get. When I was younger I remember waiting forever for things like my birthday and the holidays. Nowadays it seems like I blink and those things have come and gone.  I think I need to take more pictures, so I'll have some record of how I've been spending my days.

I got the outfit above from Banana Republic about two years ago. The shirt and skirt were sold separately and I almost left with just the shirt. I'm not a skirt person but I liked the print, and the pockets on the skirt so I decided to get it.  I caused a mini uproar at work the day I wore this outfit. You see, most of the people there had never seen me in a skirt, and I've been there over a decade. I found out the day after that there was a plan to  take a picture of me as proof for those that were out of the office that day, but at the last minute the person chosen to take the pic lost his nerve.  I was disappointed when I heard that.  I would have liked to have seen that picture.

Barielle Shades- Sailors Delight

Barielle Sailors Delight- indoors

Sailors Delight is a nice bright pastel pink. As usual I'm wearing two coats in the pics above. The polish was a little thick and it took longer to dry, but was well worth it in my opinion. I live for thick creamy colors like this. I have several shades from Barielle and wear time for me is about a week. When I was getting my nails done the lady next to me told me she thought I had beautiful piano playing hands. Wasn't that sweet?

Weekend Snapshot

This weekend I did a little cooking, shoe shopping, exercising and hair rolling. I'm trying to take my lunch to work more, so I also washed and separated some Kale and other veggies I had on hand to make it easier for me to use them during the week.

Sunday is my favorite day of the week. Sunday mornings to be exact. For me Monday through Friday the focus is work. On Saturday I'm usually running around doing everything I don't have the time to do during the week. Sunday is my day to rest.  Give me the Sunday paper and a good cup of tea and all is well. This blissful feeling usually lasts until about 10pm and then suddenly,  without a word of warning  in walks the Monday blues. I go from floating on a cloud of relaxation with the Sunday comics, and book reviews, to the thoughts of morning conference calls and deadlines. I'm not one that gets overwhelmed easily, and as far as jobs go I'm fairly lucky. There's just something about Sunday night that makes me want to double check the numbers from the lotto pool again. It could be my subconscious trying to tell me something. On the other hand it could just mean that I need to go to bed earlier on Sunday :).

Have a great week!

This is what I wore

Jacket: Target
Shirt: New York & Company
Pants: New York & Company
Shoes: Nine West(borrowed from my sis)

The highlight of my day when I wore the outfit above, was the face I got from a co-worker when I told her I got the jacket at Target. She was so shocked I didn't have the heart to add that it was on the clearance rack. I got it years ago and I almost passed on it because I wasn't sure how I would work it into my wardrobe. I usually wear it like how it's pictured above, over a shirt with a lot of detail.

The shirt and the jacket are making the cut as I prune my closet. The pants are just kind of meh,  so if I keep my word they will be out.

Hits and Misses

I've been trying to revamp my wardrobe to add more color and anything but black pants. I spied the top above during a recent trip to Target and decided to try it on along with some pants that were nearby. The top is from Target's Mossimo line which I like. They usually have cute, inexpensive, good quality pieces. The top was 19.99 and my Target had them in the orange color shown, a deep purple and a tealish blue. I got the orange and the purple.

More after the break...

Chanel Coromandel

I'd describe Chanel Coromandel as a classic bright tomato red. I'm wearing two coats in the pics above. I usually prefer bright colors on my nails and lighter colors on my toes.  I liked this color so much I made an exception, so I'm wearing it for both my mani and pedi this week.

These type of colors really lift my mood and remind me that consistent warm weather is on it's way. Bring on Summer !!

Workouts- December 2011

In December I averaged about 4 workouts a week, which was less than previous months but understandable considering how hectic things got with the holidays and the end of the year at work. My goals for November were to try a hot yoga class, increase my dedicated strength training workouts and get more cardio in. No dice on the cardio and the strength training. I did finally try a hot yoga class and I liked it.

Every new year I recommit to doing my best to eat right and exercise. For 2012 I'm not giving up on my strength training goals. I also want to get back to a regular yoga practice, continue Pilates(which I love) and start doing more outdoor running. I passed on joining a running club this year because I realized I generally prefer to workout by myself. I also don't like the extra competitiveness that's sometimes a part of those clubs. I like exercising  and I'm looking forward to having a great year of workouts.

This is what I wore

Shirt: Thakoon for Target
Jacket: The Limited
Pants: Banana Republic
Shoes: Carnell Tan Tory Burch Wedge Seen Here

My sis got me a remote timer for Max. In the first pic above she was showing me how to use it. In the last two pics I was playing around with it myself.

I wore the outfit above to work one day. I thought the shirt by itself was a little too casual for what I had planned for the day so I added the jacket. The jacket is actually part of a suit. I've been slowly going through my closet with the goal of getting rid of anything that I don't absolutely love.  If it's just mehh, the plan is to toss it. All the pieces in this outfit are going to stay in the keep pile. I love the colors and the pattern on the shirt. The pants fit well, and with this outfit I realized that I didn't have to limit the jacket to just the matching pants.

I'm sure this whole process of is going to take some time, but I'm hoping it will be worth it when I have a closet where everything I reach for is something that makes me happy.

Rescue Beauty Lounge Jane, Killa Red & Moxie

Rescue Beauty Lounge brought back some colors from past releases recently and I used the opportunity to pick up the three colors above.

You know I'm a sucker for cute packaging. I think the new red boxes and the little note on the side from RBL owner is too cute.

RBL Jane

RBL Jane
I chose Jane, for my mani this week. I'm wearing two coats in the pics above. It's described on the RBL website as a gray pearl with sheer washes of pink and gold. In person to me it looks a bit like churned concrete. I think it falls into that grey/beige category of polishes that have been big recently. It's a very interesting color that I think might work as a neutral for some. I like it and I can't think of any other colors I have that may be similar.

I'll think I'll try Killa Red(gotta love that name) for my next mani. Have a great week :)

This is what I wore

Jacket: J-Crew
Shirt: Calvin Klein
Belt: J-Crew
Pants: Banana Republic
Shoes: B. Markowsky: SEEN HERE
Bag: Marks & Spencer

I'm still hanging out at my sis's place and taking pics. She and the rest of the family will be heading back to their pre-holiday lives soon and I'm going to miss them.
This outfit got a good reception at work. I'm sure part of it was that it's hard to see an electric pink shirt and not smile. I'm also sure they were probably pleased to see me not dressed like a referee. I can't promise I'll be giving up my standby of black and white for work, but I am going to try to add some more color to my wardrobe.

I bought the jacket in the pic above from J-Crew about two or three years ago. I know blazer might be a more appropriate description but I don't like that word. Somehow when I was younger I got it into my head that only old, uncool people with soulless jobs working for "the man" wore blazers.  Now that I'm old and uncool and work for "the man" all the delusions of my youth have been doused with the harsh reality of life(aka my mortgage) I've begrudgingly come to terms with the blazer. I know modern day blazers are stylish and come in lovely colors, textures etc. but old feelings die hard so when I wear one, I will call it a jacket.  Humor me.

I'm slowly adding to my my list of things I never thought I would use, wear, or do as the years roll by. Blazers, shape wear, insoles, turning my music down because it's too loud, Bengay, magnifying glass disguised as a paperweight, brightening eye creams,  someone, anyone? Do you have a list?

Mani of the Week- Rescue Beauty Lounge Black Russian

Rescue Beauty Lounge Black Russian

I hope everyone had a safe New Year's Eve.This was the manicure I chose to bring in 2012. Rescue Beauty Lounge was definitely a favorite for me in 2011, so it's not surprising I chose a RBL color to end the year.  Black Russian is a deep burgundy almost black based polish speckled with red glitter, that up close gives the polish a lit from within glow. I'm wearing two coats in the pics above.
There's so much build up for New Year's Eve and then the countdown is over and...... we're back to our grocery shopping, bill paying, doing laundry existence. I think New Year's Eve is over hyped. New Years Day to me is where the magic happens. It's like day one of a new project. A 365 day project. So far, yours truly has chosen to start her project watching what appears to be an Ice T & Coco marathon(this is a judgement free zone) and scrounging for something to eat(mixed nuts from a  Harry & David gift box from Christmas ).  At some point(probably when I run out of peanuts), I'll move to phase two of day 1 and officially get out of bed to meet the new year.

Despite what may seem to some to be an inauspicious start to my project, I have big plans for this year, which if all goes as planned will include among other things:

I wish you all a safe and prosperous 2012 filled with all the things and people you love. T-364 and counting.
