Hair shots

This is a typical updo for me. When my hair is up like that I get the most questions about it.

Top 3 questions/sample conversations:

The curious(TC) :           How long does that take?
    Me:                                 Excuse me?
TC:                                 That(swirly point towards my head). That looks like it would take forever.
    Me:                                 No not really.
TC:                                 So how long does it take?
Me:                                 Umm if I had to guess probably about 10 minutes.
TC:                                 Nahhh.  No way that's done in 10 minutes.
    Me:                                 You mean the style?
    TC:                                 Yeah the swirly thing.
Me:                                 Yep. It's pulled back into a ponytail and the ends are wrapped around
                                           and tucked in.
RS:                                  Pause( wherein I assume they're trying to picture what I just said).
RS:                                  Well it sure is different/interesting/pretty/cool/complicated looking/nice
Me:                                  Uhh thanks. Are you done with that basket?  :)

Random Stranger(RS):    Does your neck hurt?
Me:                                  Huh?
RS:                                  Does your neck hurt you know with all of that....
Me:                                 Uh no I'm fine thank you :)
RS:                                  ...umm I like it.
Me:                                  Thanks :)

The doubter(TD):          Is that all your hair?
Me:                                Yep
TD:                                 I mean like the whole thing.
Me:                                 Si :).
TD:                                 Even the inside part
Me:                                 :) Uh huh
TD:                                 Mkay(squint, side eye)?
Me:                                 Umm, where can I find the SD cards?
TD:                                 At the front(still squinting and side eyeing)
Me:                                 Thanks.

For the record I feel that if you want to know you should ask :)

Mani of the Week- Rococo Lab Nude 6.0 Satin

Although I love wearing bright colors, every now and then I get the urge to wear something nude/natural. It can be tricky finding the right shade of polish to achieve that nude look with my darker skin tone. Some of the light beiges and taupe like colors etc. are unflattering on me, like the Chanel Particuliere mani below:

so I'm always on the look out for a good nude polish. I love, love, love Rococo Nude 6.0. I love how opaque it is. I love how it looks and feels silky and creamy. I just can't say enough great things about it. Then there's the beautiful packaging. Check out that box!
Rococo polishes can be found in Bloomingdales that have a Space.NK.apothecary and online HERE.

My family keeps it simple during the holidays. Half of us send out a list of things we would like, and the other half just wants a new pair of what they received the year before. There is no Black Friday midnight madness or Christmas Eve last minute shopping for us. Over the years we've spent all the time we saved by planning ahead, watching back to back episodes of Battlestar Galactica, Lost, Law and Order SVU, The Good Wife, Luther etc. discussing ways we could improve the environment, reduce the national debt and global warming.

I am part of the list making half of the family(big surprise I know ), and I try to get my list out before the end of November. My holiday lists can generally be broken down into the following categories:  fitness, things that smell nice, useful things that look pretty and books.

How do your families handle the holiday gift exchange? Any list makers? What's on your list for this year?

Mani of the Week- Dior Merveille

I thought this was a beautiful color for the holiday season. It's bright, cheery and fun.

From left to right:
1. Dior Merveille
2. Dior Apparat
3. Dior Silver Lake

I got this color, Apparat and Silver Lake from Dior's holiday offerings. I was most excited about Merveille after seeing the swatches online. It's one of those colors that seems to work for everyone. It even looks lovely in the bottle. I'm wearing two coats in the pics above. I thought about layering it with some glitter, but decided to do it next manicure as this time around I wanted to enjoy it on its own.
The year has flown by but this holiday season I'm determined to take a step back and relax, and truly focus on the reason for the season. This is my favorite time of the year and I'm going to spend it with the people I love, doing the things  I love. I'm not going to get bogged down by the cynicism, or caught up in the excess that sometimes comes with this time of year. I'm also not going to downplay my joy or dull my shine to blend in. I'm going to follow the marching orders of my trusty pal Twink.

My friend Twink
Happy Holidays !!

Thank You

A little lumpy, burnt browned cornbread heart :)

I really always try to be grateful for everything. I say thank you when I catch a green light. I say thank you when I realize that I didn't forget my phone again.  I also say sorry when I bump into an inanimate object but that's a post for another day. All joking aside I have a lot to be thankful for and I never forget that.

If you've stopped by this corner of my mind you've probably realized that this is a small time operation. Me, myself and I just kind of cool out here enjoying the breeze and taking it easy. So, a BIG thanks goes out to all those who check in, comment and follow.  All of us(me, myself and eye) are honored that you would spend time with us.

This is what I wore

I changed my mind about taking this pic at the last minute but it was too late. Notice the death grip on the wall!

Shirt: New York & Company
Jeans: Lucky Brand Charlie Flare
Shoes: Jessica Simpson
Bag: Madrid Tote- Marks & Spencer

....on a beautiful, breezy Saturday afternoon on the way to pick up dinner. It was my first time wearing these shoes that I'd bought some time ago. They let me know that they were quite displeased at not being worn right away by causing me to trip and almost twist my left ankle no less than four times.

I am hopeful that years from now all three of us will look back on that Saturday and laugh. For now the two of them are banished to the hinterlands of my closet.

This is what I wore

Jacket: Banana Republic
Jeans: Lucky
Shoes: Michael Kors
Necklace: Banana Republic

.... on the day my friend made me laugh so hard I started to levitate. Fingers crossed that all of the wishes made on 11.11.11 at 11.11 come true  o:)>*

Mani of the Week- Tom Ford Ginger Fire & Tom Ford Carnal Red and African Violet

I couldn't find any actual swatches of Ginger Fire, Carnal Red or African Violet online when I bought these so I purchased them sight unseen. I was looking forward to seeing Carnal Red in person the most because I love a good red polish especially during the holidays. I don't know what exactly I had in mind when I thought of Carnal Red. I do know that the color in real life brings to mind more playground crush than anything carnal for me. The Carnal Red is a nice color, all three of them are nice colors, they're just not particularly unique.

These are some of my other reds that seemed somewhat similar to Carnal Red in the bottles.

On the nails the Chanel Pirate on the pinkie stands out as more of a blue based red.  The other three are very similar.

I did the same thing with the African Violet.  I think the Dim Sum Plum and the African Violet are virtually identical.

Ginger Fire was my favorite of the three so I chose that one for my manicure this week. It has a subtle shimmer that is slightly visible on the nail at close range. I thought the Milani Juicy Glo shown here would be a good duplicate, but the Ginger Fire is more of a deeper tomato orange. It's one of those colors I'm sure will get a lot of wear in the warmer months.

Vacation: What I Saw/Where I Went/What I Was Wearing

Scarf/Turban: The Limited
Coat- borrowed/Banana Republic
Red Sweater- Ralph Lauren
Blue/White Striped Tee- Target
Pink Crew Neck- J Crew
Jeans- Lucky
Boots- Hush Puppies
Bag: Coach

I'm a light traveller. I can't tell the last time I had to check a bag. On this vacation my focus was on staying warm and comfortable so I packed tops I could layer, two pairs of jeans, a multipurpose scarf and a light crossbody bag.  We ending up having great weather, only one passing shower, so it worked out well.

The highlight of this trip was Stonehenge. I love a good mystery and after all these years there is no definitive answer as to how those stones got there. It was nice to see it up close and in person. If you're in to history and visiting World Heritage sites I highly recommend it. There is a really nice self directed audiotour that comes with admission.

Chanel Rouge Noir- Mani of the Week & Chanel Coromandel, Chanel Pirate and Chanel Black Satin

I couldn't find Chanel Rouge Noir in my neck of the woods in the stores or on I missed out on picking it up earlier this year as I noted here, so I was muy happy when I found it while on vacation recently. The very nice SA told me it's a staple color in that market so they usually always have it in stock.  I love these types of colors on my dark skin but I think it's one of those universally flattering colors. There are also probably lots of very similar colors out there in the other brands. Essie Luxedo seen here comes to mind.  I'm wearing two coats in the pics above. The formula seemed the same as the Chanel polishes I bought at home.

From left to right:
1.) Coromandel
2.)  Pirate
3.) Black Satin

The SA  also told me they were having a re-release of Chanel Pirate later in the week. I ended up getting Pirate along with two others I missed the first time around.
