China Glaze Platinum Pieces Crackle - Mani of the Week

The man, work is asking us to dress up on Monday. I have no plans to do so however, I did decide to get a somewhat "festive" manicure this week. ( Who says I'm not a team player :/o ).  I also got asked about crackle polishes in a comment by peculiar Virtue so I thought this would be a great week to give it a try.

This is my first time using any of the crackle polishes. The China Glaze polish is mine. My intention was to layer it over the Milani Juicy Glo seen here. However my manicurist felt a black base would be more pronounced so she used one of her colors. I think the brand is Jade. I'm not a chemist so I'm not sure what makes the polish do that, but I think the concept is very cool and I've seen lots of very nice color combinations on the nail blogs. I like the black and grey combo a lot. It's a little edgy. I like edgy.  Unfortunately, I don't think the crackle look in general is one I would be able to pull off at work if it wasn't a theme week. It is definitely something I would try again if I was going on vacation or perhaps during the upcoming floor to ceiling office holiday decorating contest week. (OK, I'm kidding about that last part....just a little bit).

A hair story: 1- 10

Hair can be a big deal for us ladies, and gents. When it comes to my hair I've done it all except for a jherri curl. Not that there's anything wrong with a jherri curl. I've just never tried it  :o).

I've been wearing my hair in locs for about 9 years. Before that I had a low cut, before that I wore it permed straight, and before that my mother combed it. I've pretty much always liked my hair except for the period where I changed countries and everyone at my new school had a perm except for me, and I begged my mother, the great illuminator for a perm and she said no......for three years straight.

I ended up wearing my hair permed for about 6-7 years.  After that period I cut it very, very short to a baldie. I went from going to the hairdresser to going to a barber. I realize a picture from this period would be great and I'm looking for them.  I wore the low cut for several years and loved it, but eventually decided to grow my hair out which I was doing until about April or May of this year when I cut about nine inches off. I thought about going even shorter for a while but the feeling passed.

So basically in the end, I came full circle back to my natural hair and the great illuminator won again :~)...

4.) 2008

3.) 2008

5.) 2009
6.) 2011 before big chop

1.) This is the oldest picture I could find for now. When I wore my hair very low I experimented a lot
with different colors because I could always cut it off and change it as the hair grew. When I
decided to grow it out, it was the color on the ends of the hair in this pic

2.) Tips still colored, good picture to see the difference in length from the year before

3 & 4) My go to bun back in the day and my hair jewelry phase :)

5.) This was the best hair shot I could find for that year. At this point I'd dyed my hair black to get it
      all one color again

6.)  Not the best pic, but shows how my hair was before I cut it

More after the break....

Best gift ever

I got the best gift ever recently from my accomplice, dear friend. My words would do no justice to the awesomeness of this gift. Behold:

The  Giver

The Recipient

And my world was a little brighter. The end.

August and September Workouts and observations

My trusty partner in crime which Apple no longer Apple B.O.O

On my last workout post here I was going to continue to focus on weight training.  Clearly that is still and area I need to improve on.  I did a lot of travelling towards the end of September, and although one can make the case that sight seeing and walking through airports counts as exercise, I don't track those things when I'm travelling.  Well, because I'm travelling :).

My Pilates classes were a constant these past two months. I really like those classes so that's not likely going to change. October is ending(OMG), and the holiday season is right around the corner. This is usually the time that I try to get even more focused with my workouts. I look it as my jump start on the whole New Year resolution thing, it's like I'm giving myself a two month head start. Also the holiday season is the time you're most likely to run into all kinds of random people from back in the day and you want to be looking fierce when that happens. What.... is that just me?

I'll post the log for October once the month is over. My goals for November and December are:

1.) two strength training sessions/week
2.) four hours of cardio/week
3.) two Pilates classes/week

Mani of the Week- Rescue Beauty Lounge Piu Mosso

Piu Mosso is from RBL's recent collection. It's one of those colors that looks slightly different in every picture I've seen of it. On some people it leans toward a deep blue with some shades of red, on others it seemed somewhat ebony with a glimmer of green. I guess that's a nod to the complexity of the formula. It was hard for me to get pics that captured what it looked like in person. I think the first pic came the closest. I think  Piu Mosso is a color that works well with my dark skin. It's also one of those colors I think would work with a wide range of skin tones.

And now a word on packaging. As somebody who can't wrap, cut or tie anything to save my life,  I appreciate a well packaged parcel. I like the neat and tidy way the RBL polishes are shipped like so:

They are too cute :)

Vacation- What I Ate

I took some time off for vacation recently. I had tons of fun, ate great food, saw beautiful things and caught up with old friends. It was a great trip.  I definitely will be back soon.

Yeah for travel!

Milani Pink Paradise- Mani of the Week

I'd liken my hunt for the perfect pink polish to the hunt for the perfect white/grey/black tee. It's never ending. However, Milani Pink Paradise is doing a good job of tiding me over for now. This is one of the colors I picked up here, and oddly enough I didn't like it when I tried it at home. I'm glad I gave it another shot.

The name, Pink Paradise brings to my mind something brighter and louder, like a fuscia or a hot pink. If I were naming it I would have chosen something like Pink Whisper, Pink Dream or even Cotton Candy. On my screen the color looks somewhat greyed out, but in person it is a soft, creamy baby pink. I liked it so much I even used the same color for my feet. I'm wearing two coats in the pics above. The drying time was longer than usual and my manicurist had to change the brush that came with the bottle, but it was all worth it :)

Business Casual

Blouse: Target
Jacket: The Limited
Pants: New York and Company
Shoes: Tory Burch Wedge
Bag: Cole Haan
This was a day all my appointments at work cancelled so I went sans blazer and heels. I love those days every now and then.  Work is hectic as usual. In my next life maybe I'll have a job where you have some closure at the end of the work day and you start fresh each morning. I'm not complaining because my job finances my lifestyle, just commenting.

This top from Target was a good buy. I like the print and the cowl neck. It's still warm in my neck of the woods, but I can see me wearing this top over something longsleeved when it gets cooler. As for the green jacket, I can see from the pics I've posted on this blog I'm definitely getting my money's worth, which is always nice.

Barielle Aura Angora- Mani of the Week

Barielle Aura Angora

I got an email from Barielle about a 30% discount  a while back and took advantage of the opportunity to pick up some new pretties. Aura Angora applied very thick and took a long time to dry. A sacrifice I think was worth it as I love the color.

From left to right:
1. June Bug
2. Myrza's Meadow

I had a very small Barielle collection until I took advantage of the email, with just the two bottles above.

From left to right:

3. Gelt me to the party
4. Pin Up

8. Glammed out Garnet
9. Cherry Pie

This is my Barielle collection now. Slightly bigger :).

My Green Jacket

Jacket: The Limited
Sweater: Banana Republic
Pants: Ann Taylor
Shoes: Coach

I can't believe the year is almost over.  From here we have Halloween after which time goes warp speed, and all of a sudden it's Thanksgiving, and from there we're full steam ahead into Christmas. The older I get the faster time flies. I sometimes feel like I'm just sliding out of one year into another. Is that just me? Every now and then I'll think I still have time to do something groundbreaking* or experience something momentous this year. The moment is fleeting because right after I'll remember that it's taken all my strength thus far to stay employed, reasonably well groomed and healthy, so the odds of me squeezing in something groundbreaking are slim to none. I did start this blog this year and for that I'm glad. I think I'm going to use it as my Captain's Log. I could never really get into a traditional journal, mostly because I would forget and also because writing anything other than a short note hurts my hand. This format works better for me and I get to add pictures !

This is outfit is typical me. A wider leg pant. A somewhat fitted top. A jacket of some sort and an open toe pump/wedge. Wash rinse repeat. I'm on the hunt for a good pair of boots before the weather changes. I'm looking for something knee high in a color other than black with a heel at least 2 1/2 inches. Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated.

* Not anything that would require any type of on camera interviews or public speaking. Just something that would allow
me to anonymously travel the world at my leisure while working on world peace :)

Rescue Beauty Lounge Au Chocolat- Mani of the Week

I'm thinking that based on the name this color is in the brown family. To my eyes it seems more in the burgundy family, but I'm no expert. Au Chocolat is a classic simple beauty. Like most RBL colors this one applies easily and is opaque in two coats. I'm sure there are other brands out there with something similar but I love the RBL formula.  These types of colors are no brainers for me. I always feel well polished when I'm wearing a color like this.
